Svein HJORTH-JENSEN was born in Norway in 1946.

After studying with a Norwegian potter for 3 years, Svein left his home country to settle in France, and worked with a potter in the Champagne region.
He was drawn to La Borne, known within potters’ circles as the home of the ceramic tradition; so he got his old 2CV working and made it to the village on a voyage of discovery.
This encounter in 1970 proved ‘fatal’, and he has been in the thrall of slip pots ever since.
Svein’s work has developed in a graphic direction, looking for new glazes and decorative images. Alongside his glazed work he has built a large wood-fired kiln and is going back to high temperature firing and firing for long durations, in search of what flames can do- violence and heat, ash on the raw materials.
He exhibits and sells from his shop at La Borne, or at exhibitions in France and abroad, in particular for the last 10 years at the Sauvaire Gallery in Paris.  ‘La Revue de la céramique et du verre’ in of their issues published an article on his work.
